Manual handling is a major contribution to the social and economic cost of injury and illness in NSW and indeed Australian workplaces. It has been estimated that one third of all compensable injuries within Australia are due to poor manual handling.

Both employees and employers are increasingly aware of the importance of ensuring the right to a safe and healthy workplace by incorporating prevention of manual handling injuries into their management systems.
